About

The story behind the paintings and the shorelines that shape them.

Bill Noble is a New England–based painter whose work explores the intersection of memory, atmosphere, and the ever-changing coastal light of Cape Cod. Working primarily in oil, Bill layers subtle color fields with gestural marks to evoke the feeling of a place.

Raised near the Atlantic and drawn back to the Cape year after year, Bill’s paintings are informed by early mornings on the harbor, empty winter beaches, and the quiet geometry of wharfs, cottages, and dunes. His work has been exhibited in regional galleries and is held in private collections throughout the United States.

He teaches oil painting at the Falmouth Art Center where he is a lifetime member and former member of the Board of Directors.

In 2015, Bill submitted a Portfolio to Les Amis in Dinan, France and was chosen to serve a 30-day artist in residence in 2016.

His work has been exhibited in many prestigious venues including the Cahoon Museum of American Art, Highfield Hall, Attleboro Art Museum, and Cape Cod Cultural Center.

He has won numerous awards and honors for his work which can be found in many private and corporate collections around the world.

Artist statement: “I paint the pause between tides — the brief moments where light, color, and stillness line up just long enough to be noticed.”
